Android Apps wishlist – HTC Hero

As I just ordered the newest Android phone – HTC Hero – I’m in search of some cool applications for Android. Some of the ones I definitely want to try out are listed below. The cool thing is, the most ones are free to use!

1. Buddy Runner

As I am a fan of running I need to check this one out! Buddy Runner uses your Android Device’s GPS to track your runs. Once your run is over the details of it are automatically submitted to the Buddy Runner website. Too bad I just bought Nike Plus to track my runs…

2. Wikitude

Wikitude is an augmented reality (AR) guide for the Android platform based on location-based Wikipedia and Qype content. It is a handy application for planning a trip or to find out about landmarks in your surroundings; 350,000 world-wide points of interest may be searched by GPS or by address and displayed in a list view, map view and “Augmented Reality” cam view.

3. Shopsavy

Using the camera in your phone, you can scan the barcode of any product to find the best prices on the internet and at nearby, local stores. Tweakers launched a version for the Dutch market recently.

4. Meebo

Meebo is a free IM program that supports AIM, MSN, Yahoo, MySpace IM, Google Talk, Jabber and ICQ.

5. HandyCalc

With almost all the features you can imagine on a calculator, waiting for you to explore. It even has a currency converter and it can make graphics!

6. Last.fm

Choose an artist or genre and Last.fm builds the perfect playlist just for you, fresh every time, featuring your favorites and new discoveries powered by millions of Last.fm users sharing the music they love. As Last.fm is one of my favorite social sites this is a must have!

7. Layar

Layar shows what is around you by displaying real time digital information on top of reality through the camera of your mobile phone (Augmented Reality). This version is available in the Netherlands and has the following layars: Hyves, Tempo-Team and ING. Expect Zekur.nl and Funda soon.

8. Locale

With Locale, you create situations specifying conditions under which your phone’s settings should change. For example, your “At School” situation notices when your location condition is “77 Mass Ave,” and changes your ringer volume setting to vibrate.

9. Aldiko – ebook reader

Browse, download and read thousands of books right on your Android smartphone.

1. Snake
2. Labyrinth
3. Pimpam (NL)

Thank you for these statistics, as a technology based blog I am always on the look out for things like this. I also really love the layout of your blog.

In terms of your post I honestly believe andrioid will become the number one OS. The reason I believe this is due to their next line up which includes the HTC Salsa, Bravo (Google Phone) and others of a great spec.

These phones are sure to dominate Blackberry, Windows based phones and yes even the iPhone. Perhaps not Linux though, as in the east and China especially they are very popular (and it has the largest population for a country in the world). Perhaps linux will create a truly well adapted mobile operating system?

On the iPhone I believe that unless Apple can truly bring a large upgrade to their iPhone which can compete with the Snapdragon 1Ghz monstrosity chip found in the HTC Bravo then they will lose market share < even possibly below the figures you have.

More and more manufacturers will switch to android – Motorola made a brilliant move doing this as and they even put all their business resources into backing it < what a move, they are now selling the Droid in huge numbers and thats great. The Cliq isn’t doing too badly either according to T-Mobile.

I think Nokia would be the last to move, however with the new N series falling short of Apples offering and HTC’s perhaps they might even decide to focus on regular handsets over the smart options (mind, thats a loss of revenue isn’t it).

Well thank you for this post, and don’t hesitate to become a guest poster on my blog – from your writing you definately have style
